From 1st Corinthians Ch. 13 :

- LOVE is not proud or boastful.
- LOVE is not easily provoked.
- LOVE thinks no evil.
- LOVE endures all things.

OUTREACH TO KADAVU ISLAND, FIJI :
|
|
|
Cees had been five weeks on the Pacific Link Ship when I
arrived. They had already done the first Outreach to Koro,
where the two surgeons had performed over 80 cataract
operations in 10 days. The team of 23 from Ohio arrived the
day before we set sail, and proved to be a very professional,
focused, prepared by God and fun people. Few were spared the
experience of sea-sickness on the 16 hour sail.
In praying for the eight days we were to be at Kadavu, Jessie
Misa, our Director, was believing for signs and wonders
beyond the normal dental and medical work. Also, construction
of bunks for the school and a new jetty was planned. We were
privileged to witness what happened at the Sunday service at
a Methodist church in a remote village, followed by the
unprecedented break-through of the Chief actually embracing
the crew and team. We were told that never before had there
been an altar call. Half the congregation responded. Jesse
had preached. It was a very moving experience.

OUR DISAPPOINTMENTS - GOD'S APPOINTMENTS :
|
|
|
I was very disappointed that our planned speaker was not able
to come to our September tea. But God had other plans. The
time of sharing we had instead was very worthwhile. One young
lady challenged me when she said with enthusiasm, "God is my
strength." Can I say the same, or do I look to other people,
and sometimes trust in my own ability ?
Then one man shared something wonderful that God had been
doing in his life. He said that for about two or three
months, each day as he read the Bible, he would say, "Wow !"
as God showed him something. As I listened to his testimony,
I felt envy, longing and guilt. Other things have got in the
way of my relationship with God. I can only think of once in
the past month or so, when I had said "Wow".
I was reading in Micah. In Chapter 7, verses 18-19 it says,
"Who is a God like unto thee, who pardons iniquity ? .... he
retains not his anger forever, because he delights in mercy
.... he will have compassion .... and cast all their sins
into the depths of the sea." Our God DELIGHTS in mercy !
Let's spare a thought ( and perhaps some time ) for those who
cannot read God's word for themselves.

AUGUST MEETING
"Get away from the cookie jar !" This command was heard
over and over again in Joy and Rob's crowded lounge.
The talking cookie jar was in the form of a little fat
policeman and, when anyone lifted his hat to help
themselves to the contents, he told them off ! But
those who answered their Bible questions correctly were
given permission to ignore the policeman's voice and
take a chocolate. Margie had organised the quiz. The
final prize was a pretty bird which rocks back and
forth when balanced on a finger or shoulder and given
a gentle push.
During a sharing time Matthew communicated with us in a
new way - via his portable Light-Writer. This was great
a thrill for all of us. If only ALL people with speech
difficulties could own one !
Rob and Joy shared about their visit to the Holy
Lands. They spent three weeks in Israel. In one church
they met a minister from Ohope ! They visited many
fellowships where they were able to encourage the
pastors and the congregations. One church they visited
had people of thirty different languages, so a lot of
interpreting was going on. A well done CD brought it
all to life for us. There was a picture of Rob and Joy
floating in the Dead Sea. They travelled with a group
of sixteen. A number of us were left feeling we would
like to visit this area someday.
The afternoon concluded with the typically fantastic Te
Puke afternoon tea. Many thanks to Margie, Joy and Rob
for an enjoyable afternoon.

SPECIAL NEEDS SERVICE
Several folk from CFFD support these services. In September,
Leslie spoke on prayer. In August, Reg did a skit on the
elder brother. It was announced Russell would be back for the
October service.

People :

| Noel, Debra and Sheila
( Click the picture for a bigger view of Noel, Debra and Sheila. )
When Noel had a fall in his home, he didn't expect to
spend the next two months in Tauranga Hospital ! His hip
was broken, and a plate and screw were inserted. He
seemed to cope well with his long stay in hospital. At
the time of our September tea meeting, he was still
having some problems, and had to walk carefully.
Through it all, his big blue eyes remained clear, and
he never lost his winsome smile.
