CFFD Christchurch :
Encourager 116

( August 2007 )

What's here :

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace ( how sweet the sound )
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved,
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believed!

Thro' many dangers, toils and snare,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall profess, within the vail,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be for ever mine.

Written by John Newton in 1770 after a dramatic conversion to Christ. He had spent many years as a commander on ships taking slaves to the Americas.

Report from the Chair Person

The meeting on the 9th June was held at Spreydon Baptist. Our speaker was Alf Richardson. Maureen presented a certificate to Bruce Catherall on behalf of the group thanking him for his work as Chairman for several years.

Our next meeting will be at Bryndwr Baptist on the 11th of August from 11-30am to 3-30pm. The speaker will be Solomon John. Bring and share lunch.

We plan to hold the October meeting at St. Stephens Anglican Church, Shirley.

We are planning to hold a sponsored fun walk to the gardens in September.

We are having a prayer meeting on the alternate months to our bi-monthly meetings at Bryndwr Baptist from about 1pm-3pm. Bring shared afternoon tea. Next prayer meeting will be in September.

Good News for our day

Yes, soon the Lord Jesus will come.

While men engage in war and battle, while others are caring for the suffering, while mothers perform loving duties of home, while others, careless of the future, are trampling God's word under foot - Jesus will come again!

False science may declare it impossible, false preachers may deride the idea, persecution may arise for those who proclaim God's Truth - But Jesus is coming again!

How blessed that hour, Lord Jesus! He comes with clouds and every eye shall see him.

He shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, yes, one day we shall look upward and see the firmament filled with the radiant army of the angels of heaven - Jesus with all the glorious host. It will be the most solemn and majestic sight this old earth has seen since its creation. Music, trumpets and louder as he draws nearer, sweeter and more majestic than mortal ears have ever heard, all in divine harmony. The radiant host of celestial beings in glorious harmony of song.

Yes it is he, he is coming again. Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Heaven. What a saviour! Praise his name! Hallelujah, Amen!

Children's letters to God

Dear God,
  How old are you? If that Noah Story is right, you must be older than my neighbour Mr Skeats - and he's really old.

Meg ( aged 8 )

Dear God,

  Who do you spend your spare time with? The Israelites?

Ben ( aged 12 )

Dear God,

  Why did you give Jesus such a hard time? My dad is rough on me too. So I know what it's like. Maybe you both could ease up?

Jack ( aged 11 )
