News from earth, November 2007 -

AUCKLAND COMMITTEE

by Jean Griffiths

National Camp theme was "Moving Forward". This I believe is where Auckland CFFD has been moving too. Significantly things have been happening more in the background, putting ideas to improving the ministry itself. The development of the Area groups was a big focus and I pray that more people will become involved in their community.

I'm sure that when the end of the year comes, we often take stock of what has been achieved in our lives. Have we been satisfied with the outcome - or, better still, has God been satisfied with us ? I always think this for CFFD round about this time - have we achieved what was planned for the year ? I seem to never be fully satisfied because I always feel I've not done enough. However, what I have discovered with God is, it's not the quantity of work but the quality. As long as we stay focused and take heed to the scripture below, everything will be done in God's timing.

Proverbs 4:25-27 :
"Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.
Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.
Do not swerve to the right or to the left: but keep your foot from danger."

PROFILE

Hi ! My name is Max Pemberton. I am 54, single and live at Botany Downs. I was introduced to CMWDT through a friend. I came to the Centre and spoke a few words, and gave a book called "Life is for Living" which has testimonies of people living with disabilities - myself included. This was published by the Disability Commissioners Office two years ago.

I contracted Polio at the age of 7 and spent 4 years in hospital. I have recently returned to NZ after working in Australia and America for 23 years. I have now joined the CFFD committee and am looking forward to getting more involved.

God has been faithful to me and He is a God of wonderful surprises.

Coming Events

Christmas Dinner/Dance

When :24 November
Where :Greyfriars Hall, cnr Mt Eden & Windmill Rd Mt Eden
Time :5.30-9.00pm
Cost :$30.00
This will be a Kiwiana dinner/dance. Come dressed as what you perceive as a proud New Zealander.

You will be in for a wonderful surprise where there will be a live band playing called "Legacy". They play lively Celtic/Irish music ( I know not exactly kiwiana, but you will love them ). We are very privileged to have them as they are well sought after.

We also have Chris Grantham, Mark's dad, who will be giving a message. He will have a few of his "Kiwi Bibles" there if you would like to buy one.

We also have a wonderful menu for dinner. Unfortunately the cost could not be the same as last year's, because of rising prices in food and cost of band, but it will be a great night in celebrating Jesus birth.

Tickets can be picked up by any of the committee members or at the Centre.

- and think about this :

WET PANTS

Come with me to a third grade classroom.

There is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and, all of a sudden, there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It's never happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out, they'll never speak to him again as long as he lives.

The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and prays this prayer : "Dear God, this is an emergency ! I need help now ! Five minutes from now I'm dead meat."

He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered. As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips in front of the teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy's lap.

The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, "Thank you, Lord ! Thank you, Lord !"

Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful. But as life would have it, the ridicule that should have been his has been transferred to someone else - Susie. She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. "You've done enough, you klutz !"

Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers, "You did that on purpose, didn't you ?" Susie whispers back, "I wet my pants once too."

May God help us see the opportunities that are always around us to do good.
