NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Three cheers for Lyndsay and Sara for holding things together over recent months !

Debra has been a faithful member of CFFD for many years and obviously loves the Fellowship. It is good that she has joined the Committee again.

Ken is an answer to prayer ! His enthusiasm, ability and generosity are so needed. As a committee member Ken brings new life to Bay of Plenty CFFD. His interest in the Philippines is an added blessing. We now look forward to the future with eager anticipation.

OCTOBER MEETING
On Saturday 6th October we met at the home of Mavis Jenkins where the 18 people present nicely filled the sunny room. Our speaker was Catherine Balo, a nurse with Marine Outreach.

Catherine was born in the Philippines and moved to Australia with her family when she was 12. Blessed by belonging to a Christian family, Catherine dedicated her life to Christ as a teenager. She trained as a nurse and had some years of experience before joining YWAM. She did her DTS on the Pacific Link and has been on outreaches to the Philippines and Fiji.

Catherine brought along a friend, Eleanore, who we saw on a video interpreting for a speaker sharing the gospel with patients awaiting surgery. Thousands of needy people around the Pacific have had dentistry and cataract operations thanks to the ministry of Marine Reach. Having been so blessed by God, Catherine wants to give back something by using her skills to help others.

A HAPPY GATHERING
Sketch of a friendly group of people with and without disabilities On Saturday 11th August we met for a shared lunch at Debra and Noel's place. As it was a lovely warm day we were able to have our meal outdoors. There were 23 people present, including 2 new people, Meredith (whose mother is active in Thames CFFD) and Tina.

Kay and Leslie both won a box of chocolates for being the closest in guessing how much string was curled up in a glass jar. Destiny found a prize too, quickly pouncing on a piece of quiche that was dropped on the ground. After the meeting was opened with prayer, Sara gave the notices and told us about the latest e-mail from Tammy. She invited us to read newsletters and supplements from other areas and encouraged us to register for Labour Weekend Camp. She then showed us a lovely book she had bought and asked Bob to read a devotion from it.

Ken reminded us to support the work in the Philippines. He also encouraged daily Bible reading and suggested Radio Rhema's "The Word for Today". Sara said she could get large print daily readings for anyone who may need them.

There was prayer for Lyndsay and Cees and a "Get Well" card was handed around for folk to sign. Mavis gave us news of Margie and we were shown a copy of her book which was available for purchase. Janice shared about getting a job, for which she praised God.

Ken then shared about his life. His father died when Ken was 8 years old. His mother, a Wesleyan Methodist, gave him a good upbringing, if a little strict. He lived some of the time at Whakatane and some of the time at the Mount. From there he went by boat each day to attend Tauranga Boys High School. In the 1970s he went on his first mission trip - to Vanuatu, where he helped at a hospital for people with leprosy. He has since been to many Asian countries.

In Vanuatu, Ken got malaria and was very ill. He has been to all sorts of places - jungles, prisons, refugee camps etc. At a previous meeting he spoke to us about his involvement in the Philippines.

For thirty years Ken lived in Edgecumbe where a certain lady (who may be reading this) kept on bugging him about going to National Camp. After many years he went, in fear and trembling. He found it very challenging and has been back 20 times! This year he went to his first Torch Camp.

In the Philippines Ken has a special interest in an orphan whom he looks on as another grandchild.

We were encouraged to prepare testimonies etc. for when we take more church services. We were each given a tract - "Think of the Lord Speaking to You".

Debra led us in singing

"We are heirs of the Father,
We are joint-heirs with the Son,
We are children of the Kingdom,
We are family, we are one."

This was an expression of how we felt and was followed by the songs "Let's just Praise the Lord" and "What a friend we have in Jesus". Janice led us in a closing prayer.

BIG CHOCOLATE
Sketch of a big slice of cake on a plate More of our number are able to attend the monthly service for people with special needs held at Bethlehem Baptist Church. It has been good to see an increase in the numbers attending this year, including lots of new people.

Pray for the leaders, who are so generous in all they do. Pray that they will offer good spiritual food, remembering that people who are challenged intellectually are not spiritually handicapped, and for some, this is the only church service they attend.

In September the speaker was David Brett and in October Sharon Armstrong spoke.

A FEW REMINDERS
The aims of CFFD are to Evangelise, to Equip and to Educate. Here is an attempt to educate:
  • Because I am blind does not mean I am deaf.
  • Because I am deaf does not mean I am blind.
  • Because I am in a wheelchair does not mean I cannot make decisions for myself.
  • Because I cannot speak does not mean I am intellectually challenged. Please don't talk to me as though I am a child.
  • Because I am disabled does not give you the right to lay hands on me and pray for me without my permission.
  • Because I am unable to get off my bed does not give you the right to kiss me, or take other liberties, which you would not if I was on my feet.
  • Because a mobility parking space is empty does not give you the right to park there without a mobility card.

FAULTLESS
God is not working within the confines of time. He is eternal. To God, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. He sees a moment of failure in our life at the same time as he sees us when we stand before him as faultless.

He sees the moment we were born at he same time as he sees us at he moment of our last breath. He is not restricted to seeing time as we are. He is working outside our realm of reference.

None of us is capable of totally understanding God and his ways, with our limited minds. But we can BELIEVE him. Here are two verses to meditate on :-
Sketch of an open Bible "When he shall appear, we shall be like him." - John 3:2;
Sketch of an open Bible "He is able to keep you from falling and present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy." - Jude v24.
